Imagine a company that not only gives you a salary but also actively motivates you to grow your savings. This is exactly what Nipro PharmaPackaging Americas does. Since 2017, Nipro has taken part in America Saves Week – an annual event where people are encouraged to commit to saving successfully by setting savings goals and creating plans to achieve these goals. There are daily themes around saving and financial wellness. In 2022, the themes were: Save Automatically; Save for the Unexpected; Save To Retire; Save by Reducing Debt; and, Save as a Family.

2022 is Nipro’s sixth year of participation. The company was honored with the America Saves “Savings Champion” award based on what Nipro’s campaign included as well as the number of employees that pledged to save on the America Saves Week website.

A Nipro employee who has directly benefitted from participating in this financial wellness program is Carla Dean who works in Quality Control at the Westport plant in Indiana, USA. In 2022, she took part in this savings program for the first time. Not having saved before this program, she was motivated to start saving after learning about Nipro’s participation in the program on the internal television screens at break one day.

Dean explains:

“Seeing all the new ideas gave me the push I needed to make a plan to start saving! I would encourage more colleagues, friends, and family to take part in America Saves. Just saving anything helps like saving any change it adds up in a year.”

Michael Mattingly, Director Human Resources, paints the details of what exactly Nipro did to motivate employees:

“Each day, there were posters that were put up in the break room or by the time clock; there were 3 PowerPoint slides daily that the plant could run on the ‘loop’; and informative handouts that provided the employees additional information on that day’s theme. For example, for the theme of ‘Save by Reducing Debt’ there was a poster, 3 PowerPoint slides that introduced the daily theme, and handouts outlining where to begin to reduce debt, and a budget worksheet.”

Nipro champions a financial wellness program like America Saves as part of its care toward employees.

Mattingly elaborates that:

“Our goal is to provide tools to our employees that help them keep an eye on their future, while not being totally inundated by the financial challenges of the present. Saving something now is far better than saving nothing.”

Caring for employees and their future is not a one-off effort at Nipro. While the America Saves Week program happens only once a year, the company makes it a full-time effort to remind employees of the need to save and the message is communicated via several different platforms throughout the year.

You know it’s a company that’s committed to supporting its employees when there are other financial wellness programs in place as well.

Mattingly continues:

"Since we are talking about financial wellness, Nipro also sponsors a voluntary retirement savings plan where we make matching contributions to the savings they make so as to incentivize savings through payroll deduction which is a far better way to save!”
