Nipro’s training and education arm, Institute of Medical Practice (iMEP), is expanding. From mid-March 2022, Nipro has in-person facilities in the United Kingdom for all healthcare professionals working in dialysis who are based in, or who wish to travel to, the United Kingdom for further professional development.
iMEP UK is a subsidiary of iMEP Mechelen (Belgium), which has the role of a coordinating centre and hub. To ensure consistency of the training delivered, all clinical and technical training at iMEP UK is planned in alignment with iMEP Mechelen. All course instructors for iMEP UK are trained and certified by iMEP Mechelen before they train students at iMEP UK.
iMEP UK was set up in order to deliver certified Nipro educational courses locally, offering affordable professional development for both clinical and technical healthcare professionals. In addition, the training centre will also serve as a pre-commission centre for Surdial X - Nipro’s high performance haemodialysis machine designed for individually optimised treatments. Pre-commissioning before delivery to customer sites means that Nipro can deliver a smoother and quicker Surdial X installation experience to our customers.
The iMEP UK training centre is located in Wirksworth (Derbyshire), a central location allowing access for attendees from all over the United Kingdom. This facility is equipped with Nipro’s Phoenix One DS water treatment system, enabling course attendees to gain hands-on experience with the dialysis machines running as they would in dialysis centres.
Several training courses are on the planning for iMEP UK. The first course at the brand-new centre was conducted in the week of 21 March 2022. This was a technical course for NHS technicians to be equipped with the skills to maintain Nipro Surdial X. To date this year, 7 technical staff have received certified training on Nipro’s Surdial X machine.
In addition, the first clinical study day will take place on 28 June 2022. The course - “Basic Principles of Dialysis” - will address the theory of the basic principles of dialysis, and how these can be applied to optimise dialysis treatments.
Looking forward, there are plans for more technical courses and clinical study days periodically throughout 2022 and beyond. Those interested to join future courses can sign up by sending an email to the coordinator at the Nipro Medical UK Office directly: dionne.prevett@nipro-group.com
