iMEP BENMAster class

A select group of nephrologists, vascular surgeons, and other healthcare professionals from Belgium and the Netherlands attended an expert master class on hemodialysis catheters at the NIPRO iMEP Training Center on 20 October 2021.

The one-day in-person workshop on the placement of dialysis catheters took place in Mechelen and was helmed by Prof. Jan Tordoir, a vascular surgeon from Maastricht, who was joined by an international faculty (Nephrologist Charmaine Lok from Toronto, Interventional Radiologist Geert Maleux from Leuven, Interventional Nephrologist Monnie Wasse from Chicago, and Nephrologist Marcel Weijmer from Amsterdam).

The workshop was conducted in English and was a unique combination of high-level plenary sessions, case presentations, and hands-on practice on different phantoms tailormade by iMEP. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the indications for central vein catheter placement as well as to practice different insertion techniques.

Both participants and the faculty had a positive experience and found the workshop useful.

I am very impressed with iMEP and its innovative educational ideas and tools.

Moving forward, iMEP plans to organize such training workshops several times a year. Prof. Tordoir will always lead the workshops and will be joined by a changing international faculty.

In 2022, there will be five masterclasses – all of which will include the use of the iMEP X-Ray room. Of these five, three will be masterclasses on Hemodialysis Catheter Placement (in Quarters 1, 2, and 4). The remaining two will be masterclasses on Vascular Access (in Quarters 2 and 4) – each a two-day program, with one day at iMEP and the other at the robotic training center, ORSI.

There will also be several one-day scientific events organized for scientific organizations. The first session will be in March 2022 on Intensive Care (ICU).
