Nipro’s pharma packaging plant in Westport, USA produces vials, but it is now gearing up to produce talent. This initiative to develop local talent is a win-win for the students and for Nipro: the students will be ready for vast career opportunities, and we will onboard valuable talent.
About the program
The Industrial Integration Academy (IIA) is an academic program that offers students hands-on experience in manufacturing careers. Organized by Decatur County Community School Corporation (DCCSC), it is a two-year program.
- In Year 1, students will learn about the various careers in manufacturing, as well as the safety and work culture from each manufacturer. This will be held on one day a week for 9 weeks at each site. Course work will also be provided by the school to prep each student with the essential skills needed to succeed post-graduation.
- In Year 2, the soon-to-be graduating seniors will be on-site three days a week for 4 weeks putting their theory lessons into practical work. This will be a paid internship.
About the students
The IIA program is for 11th and 12th grade students who intend to work full-time right after high school.

The program has commenced for the 2023-2024 school year i.e. from this August, starting at the first manufacturing plant. We will receive the students at Nipro in the coming spring. Ten excited students have signed up for the 2023-2024 school year. As the program will be offered annually, it is expected that this number is likely to grow each year. This IIA program is a promising solution to foster local talent by onboarding them at a local manufacturing plant.
